Where Are The Babies?

I think they are up to something

It's time to wean Zinnia and Cosmo from their Moms.  I have read that there is really no right or wrong way to do this.  My husband and I decided that we would go with separating them during the day and returning them to their mothers at night.

Well the best laid plans don't always work the way you want.  We got everything set up to separate them.  At one point we had the babies out of the sight of their mothers; I can honestly say that their upset was quite upsetting to me.  My heart went out for them - the crying and the panic was awful.

We worked as fast as possible to be able to let Cosmo and Zinnia out of the shelter and into their pen area next to their mothers.  Once they were all able to see each other they calmed down.  As we continued to do our work in the shelter to separate it into two areas we noticed that they all were eating the hay we had put outside into each of their areas and that the crying was no longer.  They stayed near each other on their respective sides of the the fencing but seemed to be calm.

We have listened several times during the evening for any crying or upset and all is quiet.  Perhaps some of the information I had read was on the button. On one website they stated that if your cria have been eating grain and hay and drinking water and seemed to be nursing minimally on their moms that they would have an easy adjustment.  Well we will see - but for now it looks like we will keep them apart.

Don't worry - it's gonna be OK
